Sophie recently clued me in on this small village in Poland, Zalipie, where nearly every surface of their buildings is decorated with brightly painted flowers.
It looks like such a bright and cheerful place! Which got my wondering…why don’t more of us take risks with our interior (and exterior!) decorating? The most many of us ever dare to do is a bold choice in paint color (and by the way, since last’s months looks we like I did find the guts to paint our living room pink).
Once in a while you’ll see someone use masking tape to turn an accent wall into chevron, or use wall decals to add interest to a blank space.
Just a few weeks ago, archeologists uncovered another fresco from the ashes of Pompeii. I want to know: does anyone do frescoes anymore?
I started looking around. After getting distracted for a while by the mesmerizing work of artist Ali Cavanaugh, who calls her creative process of watercolor on clay “modern fresco,” I remembered that true frescoes have to be painted on wet plaster.
That basically rules out putting up frescoes for most of us.
Really, what I’m thinking of, is murals. But that word immediately calls up images of tacky landscapes inside of sub-par restaurants. Can murals be cool?
Yes, yes they can.
Check out this ombre mountain mural or this mom’s freehand dramatic black-and-white flower wall (I love that she just uses acrylic paint, and that she’s even painted her floors). I’m in love with the carefree and bold look of this kilim-inspired watercolor wall. July will see the 50th anniversary of the moon landing; why not use a projector to paint a gold moon on your wall? Here’s a short tutorial on how to DIY a mural. Walls can always be sanded down or painted over. Why not take a risk and do something different?!
On another note, aren't these shoes gorgeous?
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up soon. Here are some green nail looks you can sport this week. (I’m partial to #1 and #5….they look like they take very little effort to create & maintain!)
I remember seeing this article a couple years ago, but it was reposted with updates this past week…so I guess the $20 dress newscasters are obsessed with is still going strong.
I haven’t really used Amazon for fashion finds—these days it’s mostly bulk orders of diapers & wipes. But I was a sucker for the title of this article. There are some good leads here, but oh hahahahahahah why would anyone want an LED mouthpiece?!?
